Types of Wishes
Every wish is as different as the children we serve. Although every child imagines an experience uniquely his or her own, there are some common themes among the requests to the Make-A-Wish Foundation:
I wish to go...
Some children long to visit a special place like Disneyland, the beach or even visit a favorite relative.
I wish to be...
Others want to "be" a cowboy, a ballerina or a circus performer.
I wish to meet...
Meeting a beloved hero or celebrity is a common wish.
I wish to have...
Getting that special something - computer, new bedroom furniture or even art lessons.
Timing of Wishes
Most wishes are granted within six to nine months, though, in some particularly urgent cases, within hours. Every wish is a unique challenge carried out by the Make-A-Wish Foundation’s network of families, medical professionals, volunteers and donors. The Foundation covers all costs associated with a wish, including transportation, food, lodging and admission fees for the wish child and eligible family members.
